KOTA KINABALU – A civil servant from a federal training institute has been arrested by graft busters for allegedly using his position to award RM36,000 in contracts to a family member.
The man in his 40s was arrested about 12.15pm today at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office here.
Sabah MACC director S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest.
The suspect was held for allegedly awarding several contracts for information and communications technology (ICT) supply and repairs, as well as food supply, all worth more than RM36,000.
“I am disappointed that there are still public officers who use their positions for self-interest, despite repeated reminders.
“This is an offence under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009,” Karunanithy said in a statement today.
He also confirmed the arrests of two public officers for making false travel allowance claims recently.
The two, aged 39 and 41, are colleagues from the same agency and were arrested today about noon.
They will be detained for 24 hours for interrogation and their cases will be brought to the special corruption court here if necessary, Karunanithy said.
The officers are being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for intending to deceive their principal by acting as agents or using other agents. – The Vibes, February 14, 2021
