KOTA KINABALU – Police have arrested 115 individuals and confiscated RM117,674 in a statewide anti-gambling operation codenamed Op Limau between February 1 and 14.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali said in the 12 raids at various locations, police also fined those found flouting health SOPs for gathering during during the movement control order (MCO) period.
He said 22 individuals were detained in six raids for being involved in cockfighting matches, with RM1,268 in cash confiscated.
“Ninety of the arrested are men aged between 22 and 77 years old, and 25 are women aged between 29 and 80 years old,” he said in a statement here today.
Yesterday, Penampang police arrested 14 individuals found gambling at a three-storey commercial premises near Bundusan.
In the 4.40pm raid, police also confiscated gambling materials for playing mahjong.
One man tried to escape by climbing on the third floor of the building, but was eventually apprehended. – The Vibes, February 15, 2021
