DUNGUN – Twenty-five smoke hand grenades have been found in the Felda Kerteh 3 landfill in Ketengah Jaya here.
Dungun district police chief Baharudin Abdullah told reporters here that his team collected the grenades about 1.30am yesterday.
A garbage truck driver discovered the explosives on Monday evening. He returned to the area with four friends that night, and informed police about the find a few hours later.
“Investigations showed that there were 24 mini smoke hand grenades inscribed with ‘DK’, and one with ‘518 Riot CS’ written on it. The explosives were in a brown box covered with two children’s backpacks,” said Baharudin.
“The scene is about 5km from the main road. This kind of bomb is usually used during security forces’ training, and should not be in anyone else’s possession.”
He said checks showed that the grenades do not have a serial number, and are believed to have been made in South Korea.
They will be disposed of by a special police unit at the Lembah Bidong shooting range in Setiu, he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957. – Bernama, February 17, 2021
