KOTA KINABALU: Former de facto law minister and Batu Sapi MP Liew Vui Keong passed away in Gleneagles Hospital here at 11.50am today.
Secretary General of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) Datuk Loretto Padua Jr has confirmed the matter. Liew was the chairman of Warisan.
“The party has lost a well-respected leader who contributed to the country and the state through his hard work and dedication. The family asked that their privacy be respected as they grieve during this very difficult time,” Loretto said in a statement today.
He said funeral arrangements will be made known in due course.
Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal extended his deepest condolences to Liew's wife Datin Lindai Lee and her four children.
A few days ago, a message stating Liew was in critical condition due to lung infection was widely spread on social media and WhatsApp.
Following the message, Liew's family appealed for privacy and declined to comment further.
Liew was a member of Warisan and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law) under the former Pakatan Harapan government from 2018 to early this year.
An impending by-election in the Batu Sapi parliamentary constituency would be the second by-election for the same seat in recent years.
