KUALA LUMPUR – Today saw a marked decrease from yesterday in daily Covid-19 cases at 2,192, while deaths remain in the single-digits at six fatalities.
Yesterday saw 3,297 infections and five deaths.
The cases and deaths recorded today take the nation’s tally to 285,761 infections and 1,062 fatalities, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced.
In a statement, he said 3,414 recoveries were logged, taking the total number of patients discharged to 252,623.
The ministry added 199 cases are in intensive care, with 91 requiring intubation.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 910, followed by Kuala Lumpur (303), Sarawak (221), Perak (148), Penang (135), and Sabah (110).
Negri Sembilan saw 64 cases, followed by Kelantan (28), Kedah (26), Melaka (14), Pahang (7), Putrajaya (7), and Terengganu (4).
Labuan and Perlis did not report any new cases today.
Dr Noor Hisham said 109 cases today involved detention centres, comprising the Tembok Tapah (39), Tembok Bendera (26), Jalan Harapan prison (25), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (9), Tembok Bukit Besi (6), Tembok Taiping (2), Tembok Sg Udang (1), and DTI Sepang 2 (1) clusters.
He said two of the deaths today were recorded in Selangor and one each in Pahang, Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak. One of the six deaths involved a non-citizen.
Dr Noor Hisham said the country has seen a total of 1,082 clusters, including eight today.
He added 578 clusters have ended, including 14 clusters today, namely the Parit Jamil, Manik, Batu Lapan, Paloh Tumpat, Pondok Hidayah, Sg Chemubong, Jalan TJ, Stutong, Sg Ibor, Industri Apas, Jalan KKIP Selatan, Bukit Lada, Teknologi Kesidang, and Tropika clusters.
He said 99 active clusters reported new cases today. Those with the highest number of fresh infections are the Sg Putus (186), Jalan Pantai construction site (62), and Jalan Cochrane (54) clusters.
Dr Noor Hisham said seven of the eight new clusters today are workplace clusters while one is a community-based cluster.
Selangor recorded the Lombong Timah construction site cluster in Kuala Langat, Petaling, and Klang with 45 cases, followed by the Jalan Kota construction site cluster in Gombak with 11 cases, and the Pasar Jalan Putra cluster in Petaling with nine cases.
Kuala Lumpur saw the Sg Batu construction site cluster in Kepong with 25 cases, while Sarawak recorded the Emperoh Jambu cluster in Kuching and Samarahan with 60 cases, as well as the Sg Bakong cluster in Meradong with 22 cases.
Penang recorded the Hilir Sg Kluang cluster in Seberang Prai Utara with 41 cases, and Negri Sembilan logged the Industri Sg Gadut cluster in Seremban, Rembau, and Tampin with 65 cases. – The Vibes, February 22, 2021
