GEORGE TOWN – The government must ensure that all vulnerable groups, especially the poor, are vaccinated because such groups are frequently left ignored by society, said a social activist.
Siva Santha Free Medical Clinic coordinator P. Murugiah said that the government should ensure the destitute and homeless also receive the jab because Covid-19 does not discriminate.
This also includes those suffering from chronic ailments such as kidney and heart problems, cancer, tuberculosis, jaundice, and those who are bedridden.
He said mobile vaccination units should visit old folks’ homes, orphanages, homes for the disabled and mentally challenged, and the homeless, as it would be risky for such residents to visit high-risk public facilities like clinics and hospitals.
Murugiah noted that the authorities have yet to explain to the public whether the vaccine is safe for people with chronic illnesses like heart problems, diabetes, kidney ailments, stroke, jaundice, AIDS, and HIV.
He commended the government’s plan to provide free vaccination for foreigners, including undocumented migrants.
“The Malaysian government’s decision to provide free vaccination for the foreigners means it is concerned for the welfare of foreign workers and the migrants,” he said. – The Vibes, February 23, 2021
