KUALA LUMPUR – Sime Darby Property will reopen its private access road connecting Taman Tun Dr Ismail with Damansara Heights by April, once it has facilitated safety upgrades for pedestrians, joggers and cyclists.
In a statement to Petra News Group, the property development giant said it had to close off Jalan 1/70D, off Jalan Bukit Kiara in KLGCC Resort, during the second movement control order (MCO) for safety and health reasons.
“During the first MCO (last year), as public parks, including Taman Rimba Kiara, started to close, the road was heavily used by the public for recreational activities and cycling.
“In some instances, groups of users failed to comply with safe distancing, posing safety concerns in light of the ongoing pandemic.
“Additionally, the restriction is also due to the high traffic volume involving heavy vehicles and machineries to facilitate development activities in the surrounding area.
“The safety of pedestrians and cyclists is at risk due to the potential hazard posed by heavy vehicles plying the road.”
The road closure saw multiple complaints made on various cycling and recreational WhatsApp groups, with members questioning the reason behind the decision.
Sime Darby Property said its safety department made a “thorough assessment” of traffic safety conditions before recommending the temporary closure.
It is now working to carry out safety upgrades, including installing proper signage and speed bumps.
Though the road is expected to reopen by April, the upgrading works will continue until July.
“The group is working to enable the reopening of the road by April 2021. Pedestrians will have access to the road on weekdays and weekends, while cyclists will be given access on Sundays only, when development activities are minimal.
“Sime Darby Property understands the challenges and inconveniences this temporary closure may have caused, and thanks the public for their patience and cooperation.
“Once reopened, cyclists and joggers are advised to observe a slower speed when using the road.
