GEORGE TOWN – Nineteen lorry trailers have been seized after the Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) found the vehicles with tampered chassis numbers following a roadblock and enforcement operations last night.

The department said in a Facebook post that this is the result of enforcement operations conducted over the last six months.

JPJ added that the vehicles will undergo a chemical inspection and verification to determine the authenticity of their engines.

Legal action will be taken against owners who are found to have tampered with their commercial vehicles.

The department advised commercial vehicle owners to contact its automotive engineering division before making modifications or repairs to vehicles, especially the chassis, in compliance with the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 and Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Rules 1959.

It said ongoing enforcement operations are to ensure drivers and owners of commercial vehicles comply with the law. – The Vibes, February 26, 2021
