IPOH – Former Perak menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu today said he will discuss his possible appointment as Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) chairman with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Bersatu deputy president said he will meet the prime minister soon.
“I was informed that my name will be proposed (for the post), but it has yet to be discussed with the prime minister. I am thankful and feel really appreciated.
“Personally, I would like to focus on carrying out work related to politics, especially for Bersatu for the 15th general election,” he told reporters here.
He described the KTMB post as a challenging responsibility, as the company has suffered losses due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I will accept (the post) at the request of the prime minister and for the sake of the people.”
A news portal reported that the Tambun MP is expected to be appointed to the job effective next month, replacing Datuk Rameli Musa, whose three-year contract expires at the end of this month.
Faizal, who has been appointed by Bersatu president Muyhiddin to lead negotiations on seat allocations with other Perikatan Nasional components, said there has yet to be discussions with Umno on the matter.
He also refuted claims that his party wants to take over many seats.
“Each party in the Perikatan Nasional coalition has the right to voice their interest regarding which seat it wants to contest.” – Bernama, February 26, 2021
