KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders today held a meeting with Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun at the Parliament building here to discuss the need to hold a Parliament sitting.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a statement on his Facebook page said the meeting was convened following a statement issued by Istana Negara last week, which stated that Parliament may sit during the emergency period.

“After the meeting, the PH presidential council gathered to discuss with the speaker the outcome of the meet, as well as other issues, and also on preparations for the 15th general election.”

In the statement issued on February 24, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed the view that Parliament may convene during the emergency period on a date deemed appropriate by His Majesty based on the prime minister’s advice.

It said the matter was enshrined in subparagraph 14(1)(b) of the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021, which states that Parliament should be called, prorogues and dissolved on a date deemed appropriate by His Majesty on the advice of the prime minister. – Bernama, March 4, 2021
