KUALA LUMPUR – In a bid to hold on to the triumvirate of Malay parties, PAS reiterated its support for Muafakat Nasional and Perikatan Nasional amid broken Umno-Bersatu ties.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said in a statement that the Islamist party will continue to strengthen Muafakat Nasional with Umno while supporting Bersatu-led Perikatan Nasional at every level.

He added that his party rejected any effort to work and form a “new alignment” with opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan and its allies.

“PAS will also reject moves to dismantle ties that have been formed among allies,” he said.

Takiyuddin confirmed that PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had several meetings with Umno and Bersatu leaders, including one with Bersatu that was attended by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday.

He said PAS was confident that all differences, disputes and misunderstandings “can be resolved and harmonised by all party leaders, putting the country and the people’s interests first”.

Umno has made it clear that its political cooperation with Bersatu will end once Parliament is dissolved to make way for a general election.

Bersatu yesterday said it will look to strengthen its cooperation with other PN allies – PAS, Sabah Star, SAPP, and Gerakan – to face the 15th general election. – The Vibes, March 5, 202
