KUALA LUMPUR – The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has denied the claim that the selection of cases for its enforcement action is politically motivated.
IRB in a statement today said its audit process or investigation on any individual, including politicians, is solely conducted to ensure they abide by the country’s tax law.
“IRB does not store information on race, religion or political affiliation of any individual in its database because such information does not help in risk assessment of a case.
“Information of individuals or companies subject to audit and investigation is also not disclosed as it is confidential.”
IRB said as the country’s main revenue collector, it is committed to carrying out its responsibilities without fear or favour, adding that it strives to be fair and just, and act with integrity following the tax law.
It stressed that all its enforcement and collection activities, as well as civil litigations, are conducted following the tax audit framework and tax investigation framework, which can be accessed through its portal.
Individuals, companies or organisations could file an appeal to the special commissioner for income tax if they believe there are discrepancies on the amount of taxes that they are required to pay by submitting form Q, which can also be downloaded from the IRB website.
For any feedback or inquiry, customers can contact the HASiL careline at 03-8911-1000 and 03-8911-1100 (for overseas customers), or use the HASiL live chat feature or feedback form on the IRB portal. – Bernama, March 6, 2021
