SINGAPORE – Covid-19 vaccination will be offered later this month to selected cargo drivers and personnel who enter Singapore from Malaysia regularly, said the republic’s Health Ministry today.
The initiative is aimed at minimising the transmission risk from workers involved in the supply of essential goods to the city state, it said in a statement.
“Vaccination will provide an additional layer of protection against Covid-19, ensuring that these personnel can continue to deliver essential goods to Singapore safely.”
It said the eligible drivers and personnel will be notified via an SMS from the Trade and Industry Ministry, and subsequently contacted for a vaccination appointment.
Those who do not receive the jab may continue to enter Singapore, subject to infection control measures like on-arrival testing, said the ministry.
On Singapore’s inoculation programme, it said as of yesterday, more than 596,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered.
In total, some 379,000 individuals have received their first dose, of whom more than 217,000 have also received their second shot.
When more vaccines arrive, the immunisation drive will be expanded to cover essential personnel such as postmen and deliverymen, as well as journalists and officers involved in critical banking and financial system operations. – Bernama, March 8, 2021
