KUALA LUMPUR – Ketereh Umno chief and Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa has predicted that seven or eight opposition MPS are ready to switch sides to support the Perikatan Nasional government.
He was quoted by New Straits Times as saying that seven or eight opposition lawmakers have indicated they are ready to support the government, without disclosing names.
“There are many more parties and members of Parliament who are ready to give support to Perikatan Nasional, not just Xavier (Jayakumar).”
He said he does not want to name names as it will spark denials.
“Politics is like the law of physics – for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction – so when you say there are people exiting a party you will hear news of people joining and discussions being held.”
This morning, Kuala Langat MP Datuk Xavier Jayakumar announced his resignation as party vice-president and member, opting to support the Perikatan Nasional government as an independent.
“Throughout my career as a politician, I have been with PKR since 1998,” he said in a brief statement today.
“However, following the events that have unfolded in this past year, I have grown extremely frustrated.
“The priority should be to support the government in containing the Covid-19 pandemic, to create jobs, and to secure funds to rebuild the economy.
“It will take at least 18 months just to complete the vaccination programme, and more than two years for the economy to fully recover.”
His departure from PKR makes him the third MP to cross over in recent weeks, with Julau’s Larry Sng and Tebrau’s Steven Choong also exiting the party to support Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration. – The Vibes, March 13, 2021
