IPOH – A compound supposedly issued for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures in Kg Rapat here, which was highlighted on the Facebook page of Kuan Chee Heng, does not exist.
Ipoh police chief A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said checks revealed that no compound was issued by the enforcement team from the district police department as claimed.
“Further checks with the owner of the Facebook page revealed that the complainant could not be contacted via the phone number provided to verify the authenticity of the claim, which has gone viral.”
He said a report was lodged by the Kg Rapat police station chief regarding the claim to enable investigations into the real cause of the incident.
The uploaded post alleges that an assistant cook was issued a RM10,000 compound when he went to the back of the restaurant to smoke. The post is also shared by the Najib Razak Facebook page, and has since received widespread attention.
The post also states that Kuan will help the cook in his appeal to the Health Ministry as the latter could no longer send money to his mother as his salary will be deducted after the restaurant paid the compound.
A. Asmadi reminded the public that issues relating to enforcement action taken by police should go through proper channels, and not simply shared on social media to avoid the spread of fake news. – Bernama, March 15, 2021
