GEORGE TOWN – Police here have arrested four more people, including a Seberang Jaya Immigration Department staff, in connection with its investigation into several police officers involved in the release of Macau Scam suspects.

Penang police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan said the four were nabbed following the arrest of four police officers from the Northeast district police station last month.

“The four police officers are ranked inspector and assistant superintendent from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID).

“The four police officers and four civilians were each remanded a day to assist in the investigation,” he said at the Penang police contingent.

Sahabudin said all the male suspects are between 30 and 60 years old.

Sahabudin said the four cops are being monitored and are not allowed to handle cases involving Macau Scams.

“Of course, I feel very disappointed with this matter because they are my men.

“I have also proposed to Bukit Aman that the four police officers be replaced, but it has not been approved yet,” he said.

On Friday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador confirmed that an officer from the Penang CCID had released suspects involved in a Macau Scam.

Hamid had described the action as a “betrayal” and promised to take stern action against those involved. – The Vibes, March 15, 2021
