KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases have gone up to 1,219, compared with yesterday’s 1,063 cases.
Selangor once again tops the list with 499 cases, followed by Sarawak (225) and Johor (169).
The other states registered fewer than 100 cases each – Penang (69), Kuala Lumpur (54), Negri Sembilan (46), Perak (36), Sabah (31), Kedah (26), Melaka (20), Kelantan (19) and Terengganu (15).
States with single-digit cases are Putrajaya (5), Pahang (3) and one each in Labuan and Perlis.
The fresh cases bring the cumulative cases to 327,253 while the death toll inches to 1,220 with two new fatalities.
Active cases stand at 15,075, while 154 patients are in intensive care and 64 need ventilators.
Some 838 clusters have ended while 429 remain active, including 12 new ones today. Clusters with the most new cases are Subang Dua (146), Jalan Setia Jaya (57) and Kompleks Perabut (43).
The Subang Dua cluster in Petaling, Selangor logged 153 fresh infections after 602 individuals were screened. This comes after targeted screening of a factory in Subang Industrial Park.
The other two new clusters in Selangor are Jalan Lada Sulah and Meranti Jaya. The Jalan Lada Sulah cluster has 18 cases following screening of factory workers in Shah Alam.
The Meranti Jaya cluster is also a result of screening of factory workers in Puchong. Of the 17 screened, eight tested positive.
Sarawak detected another cluster – Jalan Merpati – involving supermarket workers in Miri. Of the 310 individuals screened, 51 tested positive.
Johor logged three new clusters, namely, the Andromeda cluster in Muar involving a crew of a dredging ship in which six cases have been recorded. The Jalan Hang Tuah cluster in Johor Baru has 20 cases after screening 155 people.
The Kayu Gading cluster in Batu Pahat is a result of targeted screening at three factories in the Sri Gading II industrial area. Of 101 individuals screened, 36 tested positive.
Negri Sembilan’s Tembok Muhasabah cluster in Jelebu came about after a screening of a detention centre. Some 49 people have been infected. The Jalan Perdana cluster in Seremban and Rembau has 23 cases after 229 individuals were screened.
The two Kelantan clusters have a total of 64 cases. The Jalan Long Yunus cluster involves workers in a public administration centre in Kota Baru, where 23 infections were recorded. The Banggol Lepah cluster in Kota Baru has 41 cases involving a construction site.
Lastly, Sabah’s Taman Ria Enam cluster in Tawau has an index case in Taman Ria 6, Sri Tanjung. So far, 16 cases have been recorded and 85 individuals screened. – The Vibes, March 17, 2021
