LABUAN – The 2,340 frontliners here will receive their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine beginning this Saturday until April 3 at the Membedai Health Clinic.

Health Department director Dr Ismuni Bohari said the vaccine’s first dose administration under Phase 1 of the Labuan-level National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme ended on March 12, adding that it ran smoothly.

“We have completed the first round of doses for all registered frontliners ahead of schedule, and, so far, there have been no complaints of serious side effects from the recipients.”

As of today, Labuan has a total of 2, 271 Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths.

Disaster Management Committee chairman Rithuan Ismail said a Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force team – led by the department and Malaysian Armed Forces – will plan for Phases 2 and 3.

“This team will allocate seven vaccination centres according to five zones. We will pool all resources to ensure at least 80% of Labuan’s total population can be vaccinated.”

He said he is optimistic that the vaccination drive can be completed by year-end – two months ahead of schedule. – Bernama, March 17, 2021
