KOTA KINABALU – Three Indonesians kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf gunmen more than a year ago have been rescued, said Philippine police.

Officers responding to a distress call on a capsized boat in Pasigan Laut, south Ubian, near Tawi-Tawi, the Philippines, around 5.30pm yesterday found the hostages.

A man with the trio was identified as Suhud Salasim @ Ben Wagas, an Abu Sayyaf member linked to the militant group’s sub-commander Mike Apo.

The Star reported that Philippine authorities arrested Suhud, and are trying to identify the hostages.
