MACC arrests former ministry aide over fertiliser tender

KUALA LUMPUR – A former principal assistant secretary with a ministry has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly accepting gratification in relation to a tender issued by the same ministry.

The 42-year-old suspect, now a director at a training centre, was detained at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.

He allegedly received gratification from companies that competed for a tender to supply fertiliser to the ministry.

“It is learnt that the tender, worth RM118 million and for the two years of 2019 and 2020, was awarded to three firms belonging to the same person,” an MACC source told Bernama.

Deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrest, but did not elaborate. – Bernama, October 6, 2020
