PUTRAJAYA – Face-to-face registration for coronavirus vaccination has been launched in rural areas, especially places with limited internet access and where residents do not have electronic devices, said Khairy Jamaluddin.
The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister said under the community outreach initiative, jointly coordinated by the National Disaster Management Agency and Civil Defence Force, teams will move from house to house to register people manually.
“This method is important for Phase 2, which involves senior citizens, because we want to ensure they are not left out,” he told a press conference, held jointly with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, here today.
On reports that 90% of senior citizens in Selangor have not registered for the inoculation programme, Khairy said the authorities have identified almost 50 care centres in the state where the process can be conducted.
Facilities for the elderly can use the MySejahtera app to do bulk registrations for residents, he said.
He said 6,155,213 individuals have signed up for vaccination as of yesterday, or 25% of the national target.
Some people have yet to register as they are adopting a wait-and-see attitude, he said.
“There are also some people in rural areas who are not aware of the immunisation programme, so we need to step up our communication to increase the registration rate.” – Bernama, March 22, 2021
