PETALING JAYA – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim can expect tough times ahead when the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar takes over as the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong next year.
Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, better known as TMJ, said his father is a hands-on ruler when it comes to what is best for the people, economic and political stability.
In an episode of Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan’s Keluar Sekejap podcast, the crown prince said that while Sultan Ibrahim is firm, he is also a very understanding ruler.
“For example, whatever decisions Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi makes must be verified by the Johor ruler.
“Sultan Ibrahim will give his sincere opinion, where priority is given to the state of Johor, and I believe he will do the same thing at the federal level.
“I am sure he will be actively involved in maintaining rapport with the prime minister and sharing input when it comes to what he thinks is right and what he thinks is not,” he said.
TMJ also said that his father has vast knowledge, including agriculture, development, and even the military; as such, it is not a good idea to lie to him.
He said that the Johor sultan also understood the system, which he believes the government should be wary of.
“It is going to be a tough time for PMX (Anwar),” TMJ added.
The sultan of Johor was recently elected as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a five-year term, effective January 31, 2024.
He will replace Pahang ruler and outgoing Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. – The Vibes, October 30, 2023
