FLOODS and storms have affected communities in Perak, Kedah and Pahang, prompting the opening of temporary relief centres and the deployment of emergency teams to assist residents.

In Perak, 56 storm and flood victims from the Larut, Matang and Selama district were being accommodated at five temporary relief centres as of Saturday night.

The Perak State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said four additional centres were opened at 8pm at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Ibol, Dewan Masjid Al Wusta, Dewan Perdana Trong and SK Matang Gelugor.

The centres were opened after several homes in Kampung Changkat Ibol, Kampung Batu 9 and Trong were flooded following continuous heavy rain since the afternoon.

However, the number of evacuees at the four newly opened centres had yet to be updated, the secretariat said.

In Kedah, 26 people from eight families were evacuated to Dewan Lembah Keriang in Changlun after flash floods hit parts of Mukim Temin following heavy rain from Saturday afternoon.

Kubang Pasu Civil Defence officer Captain Mohd Adenin Suhaimi said those affected were residents of Kampung Tradisi and Kampung Baru, including men, women, children, a baby and a man with disabilities.

He said water levels were continuing to rise, while several agencies were involved in evacuation operations and monitoring.

The agencies included the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), Royal Malaysia Police, Social Welfare Department, Kubang Pasu Municipal Council and local community leaders.

In a separate incident, an elderly paralysed man from Kampung Baru was taken to his child's home with assistance from Civil Defence personnel to ensure his safety.

Mohd Adenin said the flash floods began after heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms at about 3pm on Saturday, with overflowing water reaching roads because of the downpour and drainage conditions.

The affected areas included Taman Resak, Kampung Baru and Kampung Lembah Keriang, spanning a radius of between 500m and 1km. As of 8am on Sunday, all 26 evacuees remained at Dewan Lembah Keriang.

In Pahang, continuous rain triggered flash floods in Kampung Cheroh and Kampung Sempam in Raub at about 7pm, affecting 19 houses.

Eleven houses were affected in Kampung Cheroh and eight in Kampung Sempam, prompting the opening of two temporary relief centres at around midnight at the Kampung Cheroh Community Hall and Kampung Sempam Baru Community Hall.

According to the Raub District Disaster Management Committee secretariat and the district Civil Defence office, affected residents had moved to the designated centres.

Relief operations involved the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Social Welfare Department and Village Development and Security Committees. - October 18, 2026
