KUALA LUMPUR – The country logged 1,268 new Covid-19 cases today, with Selangor far and away in the lead with 490 infections, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The latest cases take the overall tally to 336,808, of which 14,637 are active, said the health director-general.
He said another two virus fatalities were recorded, both locals in Selangor, pushing up the death toll to 1,246.
Sarawak is second in terms of caseload with 141 infections, followed by Johor (135) and Penang (99).
Negri Sembilan registered 59 cases, Kuala Lumpur (53), Melaka (52), Kedah and Kelantan (49 each), Sabah (45), Pahang (43) and Perak (42).
Putrajaya recorded six cases, Terengganu (4) and Labuan (1).
Perlis is the sole state with no new cases.
Of the new infections, only five were imported, said Dr Noor Hisham, with four of them Malaysians.
There are 161 coronavirus patients in intensive care, of whom 73 require breathing assistance.
Dr Noor Hisham said 41 new cases involved clusters at detention centres, namely Jalan Harapan (27), Tembok Tapah (7), Imigresen Semuja and DTI Sepang 2 (3 each), and Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (1).
Malaysia has recorded a total of 1,314 clusters, including four new ones today.
Meanwhile, 919 clusters have been contained, including eight today, namely Kubang Jambu, Jalan Geronggang, Bukit Tengah, Pangkal Changgong, Ladang Segama, the Jalan Abdul Aziz construction site, Jalan Dato Yunus, and the Jalan Emas construction site.
Of the 365 clusters still active, 56 saw fresh infections.
The clusters with the most new cases are Persiaran Sunsuria (52), Industri Permata Dua (51) and Teknologi Lot Enam (48).
Dr Noor Hisham said two of the four new clusters are related to workplaces, one involved a high-risk group, and the other, the community.
Johor logged the Jalan Wawasan Dua cluster in Batu Pahat with 24 cases, while Negri Sembilan saw the Industri Permata Dua cluster in Seremban with 51.
Selangor registered the Jalan Alam cluster in Kuala Langat, Klang and Petaling with 16 cases, and Sarawak’s Chupak cluster in Serian and Samarahan has 57. – The Vibes, March 24, 2021
