MIRI – A new Covid-19 cluster was recorded today in southern Sarawak’s Serian district.
The index patient is a 29-year-old woman, who lives in a village in the district, but works in Kuching city, some 40km away.
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a statement said 57 people were today found positive for the virus in the Chupak cluster.
Screening and contact tracing are being carried out to locate the index patient’s close contacts.
Sarawak registered another 141 coronavirus infections, but its death toll remains 99.
Miri district logged 34 cases, followed by Sibu (17), Bintulu (27), Serian (25) and other districts (fewer than 10).
The state still has 31 active clusters.
The secretariat said massage centres, health spas and karaoke outlets will be allowed to reopen on Saturday, with standard operating procedures strictly in place.
The decision will allow these economic sectors to recover, it added. – The Vibes, March 24, 2021
