KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 1,275 new Covid-19 infections today, down from the 1,360 registered yesterday.
This takes the cumulative number of virus cases in the country to 339,443.
Of the new cases, 32 are imported, the Health Ministry announced.
It also said there was only one new fatality to Covid-19, taking the death toll to 1,249.
It said there were 1,509 recoveries. Those in intensive care number 161, with 70 requiring breathing support.
Meanwhile, Selangor continues to top the list of states with the most cases at 478, followed by Sarawak (213), Penang (137) and Johor (120).
This is followed by Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur, which both logged 86 infections, Sabah (51), Perak (28), Kedah (27), Melaka (19), Negri Sembilan (12), Pahang (6), Labuan (5), Terengganu (3), and Perlis and Putrajaya both seeing two new cases.
The Health Ministry recorded 13 new clusters – three in Johor, and two each in Selangor, Penang, Sabah, Kelantan and Sarawak.
Johor’s Taman Brick cluster involves Johor Baru and Pontian, and workers of a recreational centre in Iskandar Puteri. Of the 241 individuals screened, 24 tested positive for Covid-19.
The Jalan Gemilang Sukan and Jalan Sg Chat clusters in Johor Baru have 12 and nine cases, respectively.
Jalan Gemilang Sukan involves a factory in the Cemerlang industrial area, while Jalan Sg Chat involves an education centre in Sri Gelam.
The Jalan Atmosphere and Sg Emas clusters in Selangor involve construction site workers.
The Jalan Atmosphere cluster in Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan, has 22 cases, while Sg Emas has 65.
Penang’s Lebuhraya Kg Jawa cluster was detected after a targeted screening of factory workers in Kg Jawa Highway, Bayan Lepas, where a total 92 infections were recorded.
The state also has the Persiaran Cassia Selatan cluster, involving Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama in Perak. Of the 281 individuals screened, 66 were found infected.
The Sawit Sebrang cluster in Sabah involves a factory in Selabukan, Lahad Datu, where nine cases were recorded. The Kolam Lintas cluster in Penampang and Putatan involves workers from a services company in Kolam Plaza, with seven infections.
The Paya Bemban cluster in Kota Baru, Tumpat and Bachok, Kelantan, recorded 30 cases out of 270 people screened. The Pengkalan Nangka Tumpat cluster in Tumpat has 20 cases.
