KUALA LUMPUR – 1Malaysia Development Bhd today revealed that it has RM32.3 billion in outstanding debt, while confirming that it received RM2.5 billion in a cash settlement with Goldman Sachs.
In a statement today, the 1MDB board of directors said two US dollar-denominated bonds with a value of US$3.5 billion (RM14.7 billion), with coupon rates of 5.75% and 5.99% per annum, will mature next year.
It said another such bond, with a value of US$3 billion and a coupon rate of 4.4% per annum, will mature in 2023.
“1MDB’s last remaining debt is a RM5 billion sukuk with a profit rate of 5.75% per annum and a maturity date of 2039.”
The board said the total bonds/sukuk principal and coupon/profit to be paid until maturity amount to RM40.51 billion.
The sum from the Goldman Sachs settlement, meanwhile, has been deposited into the Asset Recovery Trust Account under the custody of the Accountant General’s Department.
“Recently, 1MDB successfully reached a settlement with AMMB Holdings Bhd for RM2.83 billion, and Deloitte for RM324 million.”
The company said all proceeds from asset recovery efforts, including future settlements, will be deposited into the trust account. – The Vibes, March 26, 2021
