KUALA LUMPUR – The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Tapah Prison in Batang Padang, Perak, originally slated to end tomorrow, will be extended till April 12.
However, the same order imposed on the prison’s staff quarters will end tomorrow as scheduled, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement this evening.
“The Health Ministry has confirmed that there are still Covid-19 infections involving detainees, with the last 27 cases reported on March 25.
“To date, the ministry has conducted 3,787 screenings, and of the total, 834 cases were recorded.
“The surge does not involve prison employees and their family members living in the staff quarters.”
He said the EMCO will be imposed on Pusat Jagaan Rohaniah, Sekolah Integrasi Ikhwan in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, from tomorrow to April 11.
This comes after 25 coronavirus infections were recorded in the locality.
The EMCO imposed on Pahang’s Pulau Tioman, as well as Kg Bintawa Ulu and Kg Bintawa Tengah in Kuching, Sarawak, will end tomorrow and on Tuesday, respectively.
But, the order is extended till April 6 for Pulau Tioman’s Kg Juara.
Ismail Sabri said the lockdown in Nabawan, Sabah, will also be lifted as scheduled on Tuesday.
On the level of compliance with virus rules, he said 107 individuals were detained yesterday for breaching the standard operating procedures, of whom 89 were compounded and 18 remanded.
Topping the list are entertainment centre activities (75 cases), followed by failure to observe physical distancing (24), failure to provide equipment to record customers’ details (2) and other offences (6).
Under Op Benteng, 28 illegal immigrants and five skippers were nabbed, and 12 land vehicles seized. – Bernama, March 28, 2021
