BUKIT MERTAJAM – Six factory workers have been charged with using falsified medical certificates at the magistrates’ court here today.

Of the six, three male workers pleaded guilty, while three female workers claimed trial.

They accused – all employees at a factory in Bukit Minyak, Prai – are charged with intentionally using fake sick leave certs to dupe their employer between October last year and February this year.

Mohamad Hafizi Zainuddin, 28, and Muhammad Amir Md Ishak, 19, both pleaded guilty to one count of using a false medical cert on October 26 last year and February 22 this year, respectively.

They are charged under Section 465 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of two years and a fine upon conviction.

The court fined each RM2,700 and sentenced both to five days’ jail from the date of arrest on March 23.

Nurul Izzah Abdul Razak, 21, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty to the same charge at the same court. She is alleged to have committed the act on February 13.

Magistrate Zaki set RM5,000 bail with one surety after Nurul Izzah’s lawyer said her client is now dependent on her sister as she is no longer employed.

May 3 is set for case mention.

In another court, Muhamad Zulhakimi Masdi, 23, pleaded guilty to using a false medical cert on December 26 last year.

The court fined him RM3,500 and sentenced him to five days’ jail from the date of conviction after his lawyer argued that he is responsible for his unemployed parents.

Nur Farah Amira Alisham, 21, and Marsya Fatini Mohd Rani, 20, however, pleaded not guilty to the same charge.

Nur Farah Amira was given RM4,000 bail with one surety and told to appear in court on May 3.

Marsya Fatini pleaded not guilty to two charges – dated February 4 and 26 – of using fake sick leave certs, and was given RM4,000 bail with one surety.

She is to also appear for case mention in court on May 3. – The Vibes, March 29, 2021
