KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia records 941 new Covid-19 cases today, the nation’s lowest daily caseload for this year.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country also records five fatalities, taking the death toll to 1,260.
The fresh infections today bring the cumulative number of cases to 342,885.
The country also celebrates 1,097 recoveries, pushing the total discharged to 327,406.
Of the 14,219 active cases, 166 are under intensive care, while 73 require breathing assistance.
Selangor leads the pack with the highest number of infections today at 219, followed by Sarawak (192), Johor (171), Penang (164) and Kuala Lumpur (57).
Kelantan logs 49 cases, while Sabah has 34; Negri Sembilan, 18; Kedah, 13; and Melaka, eight.
Perak and Pahang record five cases each, while Terengganu has four, and Labuan and Putrajaya have one each. Perlis has no new case today.
Dr Noor Hisham said 63 of the new cases are detected at detention centres, with the Pagar Bukit Chagar cluster recording 60 cases, and the Jalan Harapan prison, Tembok Pengkalan Chepa and Tembok Taiping clusters claiming one each.
He said Sabah and Sarawak record two deaths each, while Selangor has one.
The country has, so far, recorded 1,350 clusters, including three new clusters today, he added.
The clusters that have ended stand at 977, including 11 cluster today, which are the Desa Empat, Genting Terang, Jalan Tebrau Pandan, Jalan Telok Ira, Jalan Tebrau Khas, Jalan Istimewa Cemerlang, Lebuh Keluli, Jalan Istimewa Tujuh, Jalan City, Patikang Ulu and Taman Industri clusters.
A total of 373 clusters remain active, with 43 recording fresh infections.
Active clusters with the highest number of cases are the Pagar Bukit Chagar cluster (60), Teknologi Bukit Minyak cluster (58), and Batu 22 (46).
Dr Noor Hisham said two out of the three new clusters today are workplace clusters, while one is from the community.
Selangor’s Seksyen 16 cluster in Hulu Langat and Sepang has 18 cases, while Kuala Lumpur’s Jalan Azlan cluster in Kepong and Titiwangsa has nine.
