SHAH ALAM – The water level at Selangor dams as of March 22 stood at over 90% except for those at Sg Tinggi and Sg Langat, which recorded 88.72% and 87.96%, respectively, said Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
The menteri besar said the level is expected to decrease with the reduction in rainfall in the second phase of the northeast monsoon season, to result in a hot and dry spell.
“Lembaga Urus Air Selangor is monitoring the situation closely and is prepared with mitigation measures to ensure water resources are sufficient and the supply of treated water continues smoothly,” he said when officiating at the virtual Selangor Water Forum, themed “Valuing Water”, held in conjunction with the state-level World Water Day 2021 celebration today.
He said the forum was held to create awareness among the public on the importance of water resources in development.
“Demand for water is increasing in line with rapid development and a growing population, making supply shortage among the main challenges in many countries, including Malaysia, and in particular, Selangor.” – Bernama, March 30, 2021
