KUALA LUMPUR – The number of fresh Covid-19 cases climbed past the 1,000-mark today in a slight increase from yesterday’s three-month low of 941 infections.

On Twitter, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 1,133 cases logged in the past 24 hours takes the cumulative number of infections to 344,018.

Selangor recorded the highest number of new cases at 401, followed by Penang (194), Sarawak (153) and Johor (96).

Kuala Lumpur logged 53 cases, followed by Perak (44), Kelantan (44), Kedah (41), Sabah (41), Negri Sembilan (39) and Pahang (16).

Melaka has six cases, followed by Terengganu (2), while Labuan, Putrajaya and Perlis each recorded one case.

He said the country also saw five deaths today, bringing the toll to 1,265.

Recoveries are at 1,148, pushing the total discharged to 328,554. Eight of the new cases today are imported.

Of the 14,199 active cases, 161 are in intensive care while 76 require breathing assistance.

Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur recorded two deaths each, while Selangor saw one fatality, he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said 87 cases reported were related to detention centres – Jalan Harapan cluster (73 cases), Tembok Taiping cluster (13) and Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (1).

He added that the country has seen a total of 1,359 clusters, including nine new clusters today.

Of the 359 active clusters, 50 recorded new infections. The clusters with the highest number of new infections are the Jalan Harapan prison (73), Batu Enam Setengah (37) and Persiaran Freesia construction site (27) clusters.

Dr Noor Hisham said five of today’s new clusters are related to workplaces, three from the community, while one is from a high-risk group.

Selangor recorded the Jalan Western cluster in Sepang and Petaling with 19 cases, followed by the Jalan SC Satu cluster in Hulu Langat with six cases, and the Jalan Pinang Raja cluster in Petaling and Klang with 25 cases.

Negri Sembilan saw the Batu Enam Setengah cluster in Seremban with 47 cases, while Kuala Lumpur saw the Jalan Sulaiman cluster in Kepong, Titiwangsa and Lembah Pantai with 12 cases.

In Sabah, the Fasa Dua Semarak cluster was recorded in Tawau with six cases, as well as the Ranggu cluster in the same district with eight cases.

Finally, Johor detected the Jalan Merak cluster in Kulai with seven cases, as well as the Kota Kemajuan cluster in Johor Baru with five cases. 

Some 990 clusters have ended, including 13 today – Jalan Yahya, Jalan Kempas Tiga, Persiaran Synergi Utama, Jalan Persiaran Cyber, Industri Cyber, Digital Lapan construction site, Jalan Hulu Tinggi, Jalan Lima, Perindustrian Lukut, Jalan Industri Rawang, Jalan Sri Putri, Jalan Enam and Jalan Tebrau Dua. – The Vibes, March 30, 2021
