KUALA LUMPUR – Kelantan Umno information chief Datuk Zawawi Othman has resigned as Kesedar Kilang Sdn Bhd chairman effective immediately.
The company is owned by Lembaga Kemajuan Kelantan Selatan (Kesedar).
Zawawi, who is also Pasir Puteh Umno chief, announced his decision in Kg Pulau Lima last night.
He said an official letter on the matter will be issued at the earliest possible time.
“I hope party members who still hold positions in government-linked companies do the same soon,” he was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying.
He said his decision is in line with the party’s, announced during its general assembly last weekend, to cut ties with the Perikatan Nasional government.
The former Semerak rep was appointed Kesedar Kilang chief on October 26 last year.
Kelantan Umno on March 24 ended ties with Bersatu, and told Muafakat Nasional partner PAS to make a clear and urgent choice between it and Bersatu ahead of the 15th general election.
On January 4, state Umno liaison chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub quit as Malaysian Palm Oil Board chief.
He said the move is in step with his principle of non-cooperation with the PN government.
He added that he took up the appointment last July because there was a quota to be filled by MPs backing the administration. – The Vibes, April 1, 2021
