KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia will receive 3.5 million doses of the CanSino Covid-19 vaccine from China in stages starting this month, said Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba today.
The health minister said the acquisition is made in two categories – 500,000 ready-to-use doses, and the rest sent in bulk for bottling by local company Solutions Biologics Sdn Bhd (SolBio).
More Malaysians will stand to benefit from the single-dose jab, he said.
The CanSino vaccine will be used mostly in rural areas, especially for people who find it hard to travel to get the two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinovac jabs.
“CanSino’s single dose can also be used for foreigners in Malaysia,” said Dr Adham in Putrajaya following the signing of an agreement between his ministry and SolBio.
He said the firm will need to adhere to registration procedures set by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency and Drug Control Authority before it can proceed with vaccine distribution.
