SANDAKAN – Parti Cinta Sabah’s Alvis Loo Mun Yew plunged into the Sulu Sea a day before the Sabah election no thanks to a rickety bridge, but the incident has not soured him in the least.

He has rebuilt the broken crossing with funds from his own pocket, telling The Vibes that he personally sourced materials for the project and hired Kg Karamunting Laut residents to construct it.

“You get up when you fall,” he said simply.

“It cost me RM1,000 to rebuild this 30-foot bridge.

“I hope my action attracts the attention of the state government and makes them realise that they can do more for the people.”

Loo lost his deposit in the seven-way fight for Karamunting last month, getting just 81 votes.

The state seat was retained by Parti Warisan Sabah’s Hiew Vun Zin, who secured 5,694 votes and won with a 2,479-vote majority. – The Vibes, October 7, 2020
