KUALA LUMPUR – The number of people who have registered for Covid-19 vaccination through MySejahtera is low, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The prime minister said as of yesterday, only 7.6 million of the targeted 26.7 million individuals have signed up via the app.
“I consider this figure small. Certainly, this (getting the numbers) is important to reach our desired level, so as to successfully contain Covid-19, and at the same time, revitalise the country’s economy more rapidly.
“There is a correlation between the vaccine roll-out and economic recovery,” he said when officiating at the Blood Donation Drive 2021 programme here today.
He said the pandemic is made harder to control with the emergence of new virus strains.
“From what we see, almost all sectors of the economy have resumed operations, and businesses have reopened. I think the situation is getting better and better.
“This is what we are hoping to see in the next few months. For this year, the forecast is that our economy will see an improvement in the second or third (quarter)… our GDP growth is projected at 6% to 7.5%.”
He urged the authorities to reach out to individuals yet to register for the jab, and advised the public to continue abiding by virus standard operating procedures.
Muhyiddin called on all Malaysians, especially those who have never donated blood, to do so as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Supply at the National Blood Centre (NBC) and blood banks nationwide is running low, and demand is increasing, he said.
“Every day, the country needs at least 2,000 bags of blood for some 1,000 patients. In the Klang Valley alone, NBC needs 500 to 600 bags of blood a day.
“I call on the public to come forward and donate blood to help save lives and improve the health of the local community.”
The two-day annual blood donation drive, organised by the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Charity Golf Foundation in collaboration with NBC and IGB Real Estate Investment Trust, kicked off today at Mid Valley Megamall. – Bernama, April 3, 2021
