LANGKAWI – Police have recorded statements from more than four individuals over the rally recently held at Jalan Parlimen to protest the Election Commission’s (EC) delay in implementing Undi18.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said they include organisers and politicians, adding that investigation is ongoing, with more witnesses to be called in.
Last Friday, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik, Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah and former Bersih chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan were summoned to the Dang Wangi Police Headquarters to give their statements on the March 27 rally.
Hamid said police respect the right of the people to assemble in line with the spirit of democracy, but assemblies should be held with accordance to standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“...but if they violate the SOPs on Covid-19, we have to take action.” – Bernama, April 4, 2021
