[UPDATED] Covid-19: New cases drop to 1,349, with 2 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases have dropped slightly today to 1,349 from yesterday’s 1,638, bringing the total number of infections to 350,959.

The country also registered two more fatalities, both locals. The death toll now stands at 1,288.

Of the new cases, seven are imported – five Malaysians and two non-citizens.

Sarawak has the highest number of fresh infections today at 419, followed by Selangor (343) and Penang (185).

States with fewer than 100 cases are Johor (95), Kuala Lumpur (73), Sabah (68), Kedah (32), Perak (24), Labuan (22), Negri Sembilan (20), Kelantan (18), Putrajaya (17), Melaka (15) and Pahang (11).

Terengganu and Perlis have single-digit cases with six and one, respectively.

Covid-19 recoveries stand at 1,270 cases today, bringing the total to 335,162.

Active cases stand at 14,509, with 186 in intensive care and 94 requiring ventilator support.

According to the Health Ministry, Malaysia has 10 new clusters, bringing the total tally of active clusters to 359.

In Sarawak, one of three new clusters – Tembok Sri Aman – has recorded 160 cases after 467 individuals are screened. They are mostly detainees at the Sri Aman central prison in Jalan Brayun. The cases have been detected since March 30.

The Sg Mupong cluster in Sibu and Meradong has an index case after a symptomatic individual was screened on March 26. The cluster involves a community in Sg Mupong in Loba Stabar, Meradong. As of today, it has a total of 17 cases and 30 people screened.

The Sg Rassau cluster involves communities in Matu and Sibu. As of today, 11 cases have been recorded and 338 people screened.

Johor’s clusters – Jalan Maju Cemerlang and Jalan Murni Satu – have a total of 26 cases. The former cluster is detected after a targeted screening of workers of a factory in Jalan Maju 1, Cemerlang Industrial Park in Ulu Tiram, Johor Baru. Of the 134 people screened, 11 are found positive.

The Jalan Murni Satu cluster involves Batu Pahat, Kluang and Mersing, as well as an education centre in Paloh, Kluang. As of today, 15 people have tested positive.

Selangor’s Jalan Suasana cluster involves the locality, where infections have been reported at an education centre in Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras. Of the 187 people screened, 19 tested positive.

The Jalan Alamanda cluster spreads across Putrajaya and Sepang, Selangor. It includes three businesses in those two localities. Of the 45 people screened, 12 tested positive.

The Danan cluster has been detected in Pasir Putih, Kelantan, after several cases have been reported in Kg Danan and Kg Alor Hijau. Of the 236 people screened, 17 are found positive.

Sabah has recorded a new cluster – Rich Park – in Tawau and Kota Kinabalu, brought about by a social event in Taman Rick Park in Tawau on March 26 and 27. So far, 55 individuals have been screened and 17 infections recorded.

Perak’s Kg Batu Lapan Lekir community cluster in Manjung stems from a screening of a symptomatic individual on March 30. So far, 60 people have been screened, with 14 infected.

Meanwhile, eight clusters have ended – Jalan Persiaran Cemerlang, Jalan Perindustrian Estate, Mayang, Jalan Senai Utama, Jalan Persiaran Teknologi Kulai, Tapak Bina Jalil Utama, Jalan Lombong and Jalan Ho Pin. – The Vibes, April 4, 2021
