1,300 fresh Covid-19 infections today, 385 in Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR – Cases in Sarawak make up 385 fresh Covid-19 infections out of the country’s 1,300 recorded today, according to Health Ministry data.

Malaysia also logged five fatalities, bringing the death toll to 1,300.

Selangor is the state with the second-highest number of infections at 242, followed by Kelantan (126), Sabah (112) and Penang (110).

States with fewer than 100 cases are Johor (98), Kuala Lumpur (87), Perak (61), Kedah (27), Negri Sembilan (14) and Pahang (11). Those with cases in the single-digits are Terengganu (9), Labuan (8), Melaka (7) and Putrajaya (3).

Perlis has no new cases today. With that, the ministry recorded a total of 353,329 infections.

Malaysia also saw 1,412 new recoveries, bringing the total to 337,868 cases.

Currently, active cases are at 14,161, with 189 in intensive care and 88 being intubated.

The ministry logged 10 new clusters while 11 ended today. Active clusters number 354, with three detecting the most cases being the Tembok Sri Aman (128), Jalan Pelabuhan (50) and Jalan Mega Industri (20) clusters.

Selangor’s two clusters – Integrasi Rawang Tiga (13 cases) and Jalan Badli Shah (21) – are workplace-related. The Integrasi Rawang Tiga cluster was a result of targeted screening of construction workers in Rawang. The Jalan Badli Shah cluster involving Petaling, Klang and Hulu Langat is linked to a government administrative centre in Section 9, Shah Alam.

Kelantan also has two new clusters – one is workplace-related and the other is a community cluster. The Jalan Kota Kubang Labu in Kota Baru and Bachok involves a services company. So far, 26 have tested positive out of 318 screened. The Kg Palekbang community cluster in Tumpat has 28 cases after 42 were screened.

A new cluster called Jalan Maju was also recorded in Sibu, Sarawak. It refers to the workplace of the index case detected on March 27. As of today, the ministry said of the 80 individuals screened, 34 tested positive.

One of two Johor clusters, Jalan Mega Industri in Johor Baru, was recorded after targeted screening of factory workers in the Nusa Cemerlang industrial park, Gelang Patah. So far, 21 were found positive. Meanwhile, the Padang Hijau cluster in Kluang is linked to detainees of a transit centre. As of today, 17 individuals were screened with 12 testing positive.

The Taman Peruda community cluster in Kuala Muda, Kedah, recorded 16 cases while Terengganu’s Kg Belaoh community cluster in Besut has six.

Lastly, Sabah’s Belacon cluster in Lahad Datu and Tawau recorded 17 Covid-19 cases after 196 individuals were screened. 

The clusters that have ended are Amanjaya, Jalan Industri A1, Jalan Sungai, Jalan Dato Sellathevan, Persiaran Bayam Indah, Jalan Timah Tiga, Jalan Jenjarom, Perusahaan Baru, Jalan Sementa, Jalan Subang and Simpang Tiga. – The Vibes, April 6, 2021
