KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has claimed he was vindicated over decades-long rumours of an illicit encounter with 90s pop star and actress Ziana Zain.

In a Facebook post today, the Pekan MP said that slanderous allegations of an affair were finally answered with Ziana’s interview on Astro Awani yesterday where she said that she never bothered about the slurs.

“Another slander towards me has been answered,” Najib said.

“Last time, pro-Pakatan Harapan (PH) propaganda blogs had implied that I had a relationship with her. The source for those pro-PH blogs? Comments in fake accounts in internet forums,” he added.

At the time of writing, the post had received around 4,000 comments and had some 550 shares.

Najib followed up with a hilarious jab in the comment section at International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and his younger brother Azwan Ali.

“Luckily for me, the slander implied that I had relations with Ziana Zain and did not imply that I had a relationship with Haziq or with someone’s younger sibling who is a Diva,” he said, referring to Azwan who calls himself Diva AA.

This comment alone received around 13,000 reactions with more than 1,330 replies at the time of writing.

Ziana and Najib were rumoured to have been caught in a compromising position in a hotel at Port Dickson by the religious authorities in the 1990s. They were said to have been let off due to the intervention of the then Negri Sembilan menteri besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad.

According to Awani’s report, Ziana, who had starred in local blockbuster movies like Sembilu and Maria Mariana, seldom addressed the subject – up until an exclusive interview with Stars@AWANI which was aired on the company’s social media platform last Sunday.

She was quoted as saying that she never thought that the claims had hindered her career.

“People will try to gossip that we did things we never did. I accepted (willingly) as long as my parents know who I am and I know who I am,” she reportedly said. – The Vibes, April 6, 2021
