KUALA LUMPUR – The management of community halls should not be privatised, instead managed in a transparent manner by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), said a group of eight opposition lawmakers here.
In a joint statement today, they said halls that were built using public funds should not be handed over to third parties with the intention of profiteering and should remain open for the use of the local communities.
“During the Pakatan Harapan administration, we have removed community halls from being under the control of BN (Barisan Nasional) parties because some of them treated the halls like their own property carrying out business activities that benefited them.
“We urged DBKL to continue this policy and allow all parties, including those in opposition, to use these facilities.”
