KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 1,854 new Covid-19 infections today, taking the cumulative total to 357,607.
Five deaths were also recorded, taking the death toll to 1,313.
Three of the victims were Malaysians while two were non-citizens.
According to the Health Ministry, a 69-year-old woman with a history of high blood pressure arrived dead at Bintulu Hospital in Sarawak.
Today’s new cases, which involve 20 imported infections, take the number of active cases to 14,805.
The past 24 hours also saw 1,247 recoveries, as 169 remain in intensive care and 79 require breathing support.
Sarawak recorded the highest number of new cases today with 555, followed by Selangor (403), Penang (176), Kelantan (143) Sabah (139), Kuala Lumpur (135) and Johor (103).
Negri Sembilan and Kedah, meanwhile, both logged 40 cases today, followed by Melaka (34), Perak (29), Terengganu (29), Pahang (19), Putrajaya (6) and Labuan (3). Perlis saw no new cases today.
Meanwhile, Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun today tweeted that the two new clusters in Sandakan have contributed to the state’s new infections.
Tawau recorded the highest number of cases in the state at 78, which is an increase from 63 infections yesterday.
“One of the clusters in Sandakan originated from a birthday party in a Sim Sim flat. Sandakan 20 (cases), Tuaran 13, Lahad Datu 12.”
The new cases bring Sabah’s cumulative to 55,539.
Malaysia logged seven new clusters, including the two in Sabah.
The Batu Lima Jalan Sibuga cluster and Sim-Sim cluster recorded eight and 15 infections, respectively.
The Sg Kluang Satu cluster in Penang has 79 infections, while the Jalan Ismail Sultan cluster saw 36 cases in Johor Baru.
The Taman Bukit Pantai cluster involving Kuala Lumpur and Petaling registered 20 cases after a screening of 74 individuals.
In Sarawak, the Sg Gemuan and Disso clusters logged 39 and 24 infections, respectively.
Of the seven clusters, four – Batu Lima Jalan Sibuga, Sg Kluang Satu, Jalan Ismail Sultan and Taman Bukit Pantai – are workplace-related. – The Vibes, April 9, 2021
