KUALA LUMPUR – The police will call Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to give their statements over the purported audio clip of a phone call between the two.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said the authorities have opened an investigation paper on the matter.
“Our investigation SOP is that the investigating officer will call the individuals involved to record their statements. That’s the investigation process.
“Secondly, if Zahid and Anwar feel wronged, they can come forward to lodge reports so the police can investigate,” Hamid said after an event today in Bandar Puteri, Klang.
He added that eight police reports have been lodged on the matter.
“We are also waiting for the results of an analysis. If needed, the analysis will be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers. If possible, we want to get a quick solution so the investigation can be expedited.”
Previously, Sinar Harian had reported Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani as saying the audio clip will be sent to a forensics lab for voice comparison.
He added that the investigation is being carried out by Bukit Aman’s Classified Crimes Investigation Unit (USJT) and the Criminal Investigation Department.
Zahid and Anwar have both issued denials on their involvement in the audio clip. – The Vibes, April 10, 2021
