KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 1,739 fresh Covid-19 infections today, taking the cumulative number of cases to 360,856.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today said the country also logged eight fatalities, bringing the death toll to 1,329.
There are 1,215 recoveries today, which raise the discharged tally to 343,953 since the pandemic began.
Eight of the 1,739 new cases are imported – three involved citizens, while the remaining five are foreigners.
Of the 15,574 active cases, 183 are in intensive care, while 81 require intubation.
Selangor, once again, recorded the highest number of cases with 535, followed by Sarawak (443), Penang (113) and Sabah (127).
Kelantan recorded 98 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (96), Johor (67), Melaka (59), Perak (50), Negri Sembilan (40), Kedah (40), Terengganu (34), Pahang (22), Putrajaya (11) and Labuan (4).
Perlis saw no new case today.
Dr Noor Hisham said 56 cases are related to detention centres, namely the Telok Mas cluster (44 cases), Jalan Harapan cluster (9) and Tembok Tapah cluster (3).
Four of the eight deaths today are recorded in Selangor, two in Kuala Lumpur, and one each in Sabah and Johor, he added.
So far, the country has detected a total of 1,459 clusters, including eight new ones today.
A total of 1,116 clusters have ended, including eight today – The Melor, Jalan i-Park Tiga, Industri Waja, Bukit Putra, Kg Sg Maong, Jalan Kabel Gemilang, Jalan Sg Baong, and Jalan Industri Tiga clusters.
A total of 343 clusters are still active, with 50 logging fresh infections today.
The clusters with the highest number of new cases are the Cybersouth construction site cluster (180 cases), Jalan Kawawari cluster (49) and the Telok Mas cluster (44).
Dr Noor Hisham said five of the new clusters are related to workplaces, while the remaining three come from the community.
Selangor’s Jalan Kasawari cluster in Kuala Langat recorded 49 cases, while its Jalan Desaria cluster in Sepang, Gombak and Hulu Langat recorded 13.
Sarawak’s Jalan Bambangan cluster in Mukah and Dalat logged 30 cases, its Halan Badarudin cluster in Kuching and Samarahan (17), its Nanga Kelangas cluster in Julau (37), and, its Abak Bon cluster in Miri and Subis (34).
Kelantan detected the Jalan Zainab cluster in Pasir Puteh, Bachok, Kota Baru, Pasir Mas and Tumpat with 51 cases, while Sabah detected the Meruntum cluster in Putatan and Penampang with eight. – The Vibes, April 11, 2021
