MIRI – The Sibu Municipal Council has ordered the town’s central market to be cordoned off after yet another big Covid-19 outbreak among the traders.
Council chairman Clarence Ting today said the directive this morning to seal off the market and fence it up was issued after 17 traders were found positive with the coronavirus in recent days.
“The standard operating procedures (SOPs) require that we close the market for two weeks,” he said via social media groups today.
“In previous outbreaks in the market, we did that – but again, it happened. We will install fencing to reduce the number of people allowed in.”
Ting said that the infected traders have been sent for treatment, adding that decontamination will be carried out to cleanse the market again.
Sibu Central Market has been hit by numerous Covid-19 outbreaks since last year, with the district being the worst-hit coronavirus danger zone in Sarawak.
