KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 1,889 fresh Covid-19 cases today, the highest since March 5 (2,154), bringing the total caseload to 365,829.
Eight fatalities were also recorded, taking the death toll to 1,353.
Seven of the victims were locals, while one in Sabah was a non-citizen who died in Tawau Hospital.
Of the total new cases, only six are imported.
A total of 1,485 recoveries were logged, with 204 in intensive care and 79 requiring breathing support.
On Twitter, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor recorded the highest number of cases today at 517, followed by Sarawak (489), Kelantan (226), Sabah (142) and Kuala Lumpur (134).
Penang recorded 92 cases, followed by Johor (84), Perak (56), Kedah (53), Negri Sembilan (51), Terengganu (14) and Pahang (13).
Putrajaya saw eight cases, followed by Melaka (six), Perlis (three) and Labuan (one).
The Health Ministry reported that the nation has a total of 1,485 clusters, with seven new ones detected today.
The Jalan Khidmat cluster was identified at a work site in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. After the screening of 796 individuals, 24 were found positive. In Tawau, the Batu Sepuluh cluster has 16 cases after 50 individuals were tested.
The Jalan Mohd Taib cluster, which involves Hulu Selangor and Klang, concerns staff members of a mall warehouse. The ministry said 49 individuals were screened and 10 cases recorded.
The Jalan Sempilai cluster in Penang concerns a public administration centre, where 14 cases have been identified.
In Kuala Muda, Kedah, the ministry detected the Permatang Berangan cluster after a targeted screening of staff members and students of a school. After screening 51 individuals, 28 cases were registered.
Meanwhile, the Jalan Gapam cluster, involving Central Melaka and Jasin, was identified after the screening of individuals with symptoms. Ten positive infections were recorded.
The Jalan Sahadi cluster in Sepang, Klang and Kuala Selangor, was recorded after a social event, with the screening of 59 individuals and 20 found positive. – The Vibes, April 14, 2021
