MIRI – All schools in Bintulu town have been ordered to close immediately, with students and staff ordered to resume online lessons.
This comes after 17 primary and secondary schools in Bintulu town saw Covid-19 infections spreading among students and teachers.
Sarawak Public Utilities Minister Datuk Stephen Rundi made the announcement today via a public statement.
“The Health Department has reported Covid-19 infections in 17 schools in Bintulu town. Due to this latest development, all schools there will close down operations immediately.
“Students and teachers will go home for online lessons until further notice.”
Rundi, who is also Kemena assemblyman, said schools outside Bintulu town have not been hit by Covid-19 infections yet.
“Schools outside the town are still safe. They can continue physical classes for now.”
Meanwhile, infected students and teachers from the 17 schools have been sent to Bintulu Hospital. Active tracing and screening are being carried out now to determine their close contacts.
