[UPDATED] Covid-19 cases top 2,000 for first time since March 5

KUALA LUMPUR – New Covid-19 cases breached 2,000 today in a first since March 5, when 2,154 infections were logged.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today’s 2,148 fresh cases take the national total to 367,977.

Sarawak tops the list with 512 infections, followed by Selangor (459), Kelantan (221) and Sabah (202).

Johor logged 182 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (171), Penang (134), Terengganu (57), Melaka (53) and Perak (51).

Negri Sembilan and Pahang both recorded 34 cases, Kedah (26), Putrajaya (8), Labuan (3) and Perlis (1). – The Vibes, April 15, 2021

The country recorded 10 fresh fatalities, bringing the death toll to 1,363.

Recoveries stand at 1,259 today, pushing the total discharged to 349,039.

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur recorded three fatalities each, Sarawak has two, while Johor and Sabah have one each.

Dr Noor Hisham said 19 cases are imported, of which six are citizens. Of the 17,575 active cases, 212 are under intensive care, while 82 require intubation.

A total of 57 cases today are related to detention centres from the Telok Mas cluster (45) and Jalan Harapan cluster (12), he added.

He said the country has recorded a total of 1,500 clusters, including 15 today.

The total number of clusters that have ended stand at 1,154, including 10 today, namely the Kg Padang Tembak, Sg Puloh, Jalan Laksamana, Kuala Punteh, Bukit Petiti, Hulu Jerocco, Jalan Vista construction site, Kiba, Bukit Tunggal and Jasmine Empat clusters.

Of the 346 active clusters, 73 recorded fresh infections. The clusters with the most new cases are the Jalan Kempas Satu (81 cases), Abak Bon (77) and Telok Mas (45) clusters.

Dr Noor Hisham said nine new clusters today are related to workplaces, while six are from the community.

Kelantan recorded the Kg Bunut Sarang Burung cluster in Tumpat, Kota Baru and Tanah Merah with 50 cases.

It also logged the Kg Domis cluster in Kuala Krai, Machang, Pasir Mas, Tumpat and Tanah Merah with 40 cases; Kg Labok cluster in Machang (9); Kg Bechah Semak cluster in Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah (36); and, the Kok Lanas cluster in Kota Baru, Tanah Merah and Tumpat (31).

Selangor’s Jaya Setia cluster in Petaling has 12 cases, while its Perabot Olak Lemput cluster in Kuala Langat has 25.

Sabah recorded the Jalan Labuk Tiga cluster in Sandakan and Lahad Datu with 15 cases; Lorong Megah Jaya cluster in Sandakan (18); Biah Skim cluster in Keningau (10); and, the Melangkap Tomis cluster in Kota Belud and Tuaran (10).

Johor’s Jalan Cempaka Putih cluster in Kulai and Kota Tinggi has nine cases, while Terengganu’s Taman Rakyat cluster in Dungun has 26.

Kedah registered the Pokok Machang cluster in Baling, Kuala Muda and Kulim with 14 cases. – The Vibes, April 15, 2021
