BUTTERWORTH – In yet another incident of reckless driving, a car driving against traffic caused two cars and one bike to pile up at Km13 of the Butterworth Outer Ring Road bound for Bagan Ajam here last night.

The incident at about 10pm involved a Honda City and Toyota Corolla Altis, as well as a Benelli Leoncino motorcycle.

North Seberang Perai police chief Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the accident was believed to have occurred when a 43-year-old man drove his Honda City against traffic.

“It caused the car to graze the motorcycle ridden by a couple aged 24 and 28, but the rider and pillion rider did not fall and were not injured.

“The car then collided with a Toyota Corolla Altis with three family members on board who were on the right path of way,” he said.

Noorzainy said police are still investigating the cause of the incident as the Honda City driver has not regained consciousness and is being treated at Seberang Jaya Hospital.

“The 35-year-old driver of the Toyota Corolla Altis and the passengers, namely his 31-year-old wife and three-year-old daughter who were injured, also received treatment.

“Police are conducting further investigations, including locating witnesses and examining closed circuit television footage,” he said.

Noorzainy said witnesses can contact the investigating officer at 018-2881 424, or come to any nearby police station to assist the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – The Vibes, April 15, 2021
