IPOH – A Chinese national, claimed to have caused several premises here to close for sanitisation after she tested positive for Covid-19, is under quarantine in Kuala Lumpur.
Ipoh police chief A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said checks found that the woman is not a model as reported, but a businesswoman holding a Malaysia My Second Home programme visa.
“She has an interstate permit issued by a police station in Kuala Lumpur to travel here on official work from April 9 to today.
“She underwent a polymerase chain reaction test at a private medical centre here on April 10 and received a positive Covid-19 result the next day.
“As soon as she received the results, she returned to her house in Kuala Lumpur without stopping anywhere along the way and contacted the Health Ministry. She is now under a quarantine order.”
Asmadi said the ministry is investigating the case, adding that the Kinta district health office has yet to receive any alert regarding the woman’s contacts here.
There is currently no Covid-19 case linked to her, he added.
However, he said, health teams have visited premises that the woman had patronised for sanitisation to be done.
“The ministry is conducting further investigations to see if action needs to be taken based on the facts of the case and whether an offence has been committed.”
Earlier, a local Chinese-language newspaper reported that the woman had through her Instagram account apologised for not undergoing the quarantine process before being confirmed positive for Covid-19.
It said the woman, believed to be from China and working in Malaysia, returned to Ipoh on April 9 and underwent a Covid-19 screening after she was said to have made close contact with an infected individual but did not undergo self-quarantine. – Bernama, April 15, 2021
